Gods are said to be resting in the high heavens, but in some of
the villages of the northern part of
Kerala
they come down to the earth in the form of
"Theyyams"
and give solace to the thousands of anguished villagers. Vengara
is one among them.
Caressed by the Arabian Sea and protected by the hillock of "Ezhimala"
(Now this place is famous for Naval Academy), the village of
Vengara is famous for its beautiful landscapes and lush greenery.
The word Vengara is originated from word “Ven Kara” which means
the White land created by moving sea. This village is surrounded
by main Districts town
Kannur,
Taliparamba
and
Payyanur

To associate all Vengara expatriates living in various
parts of world, we have initiated a movement called "Friends
of Vengara" and it was formed on
1st January 2007.
As of now we have succeeded in getting support from more
than 300 members out of 500 expatriates from this tiny
village
of Kerala having 300 houses. We have chapters in all gulf
countries like UAE, Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait, Oman ets and in
major cities of
India
(Mumbai, Bangalore, Gujarat, Delhi). Within one year
period we were succeeded in collecting more than 2 lakhs
rupees for charity and out of this amount around 75,000
rupees given for charities. This includes financial aid
to families of Mr. Ligesh & Mr.Ratheesh who were killed in
bike accident on 9th Oct. 07. Also we had given cash
endowment to 34 students of all three schools of Vengara
and uniform to 40 poor students. As a part of
strengthening our organization, now formed a Trust called
“FRIEND OF VENGARA” with the help ex-gulf members from
Vengara. In future all our charity work will be rooted
through this Trust. When we enter year 2008, we are
coming up with a proposal to construct an
Auditorium-cum-Tourist Home in Madaipara. This will be
constructed under supervision of trustees of FRIENDS OF
VENGARA and all expatriates vengaraians can join as a

Theyyam |
|
|
|
Theyyam is a popular ritual art of northern Kerala
usually performs in the temples of north Kerala as
part of the daily rituals and festivals. The word
Theyyam is merely a corruption of daivam, meaning
god. It takes place in 'Kavu's and 'Kottam's of
Kasargod, Kannur districts during the festival
season (November to May). It is one of the oldest
and famous religious ritual dance forms glorifying
